Unprecedented public notice will offer R$ 150,000 for professional qualification of black women artisans

In recognition of the importance of valuing black culture and the need to implement affirmative actions to promote female art, the City of Porto Alegre launches, on April 26, an unprecedented public notice. The Fumproarte Contest for Valorization of the Artesã Negra Enterprise is promoted by the Municipal Department of Culture, with investment from Grupo Carrefour Brasil. “The objective is to strengthen the work of a group of artists who do not usually receive financial investment. In addition, we increase the production capacity of these artisans, at the same time we will give more visibility to these artistic productions. The project is in line with our purpose of promoting black culture in Rio Grande do Sul and in the country”, highlights Lucio Vicente, Sustainability Director at Grupo Carrefour Brasil.

Each artisan who has the project approved will receive R$ 5,000 that can be used to purchase materials for making handicrafts, furniture items — as long as the legal entity is characterized for the exercise of handicraft. There will also be training focused on digital communication, an essential tool to increase the visibility of these women's work. Among the professionals involved in this training are website designers and developers.

"We have developed a simplified registration process and will democratize access to this public notice, using an online form and even the possibility of video registration", explains Miguel Sisto, coordinator of the Municipal Fund for Support of Artistic and Cultural Production (Fumproarte ). Interested parties who do not have a computer or internet access can use the structure of the Municipal Department of Culture, located at Avenida Venâncio Aires, 67, in the Cidade Baixa neighborhood. Opening hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

“It is essential to count on the support of large companies, which recognize the value of all forms of art and expression, but which, especially, understand the importance of assisting those artists with restricted access to projects like this”, celebrates Gunter Axt, secretary Municipal Culture of Porto Alegre.

Application period: from April 26 to June 10, 2022

What do I need to apply? It is necessary to send the registration form, Cost Forecast Worksheet, in addition to photos, websites or social profiles on the internet that prove work in the craft area for a minimum period of two years.

Project by Porto Alegre City Hall, with cultural incentives from Grupo Carrefour Brasil, to open registrations for 30 artists

On the night of November 19, 2020, João Alberto Silveira Freitas was killed on the premises of our store in Passo D'Areia, in Porto Alegre/RS, in an act that does not represent and is not consistent with Carrefour's values.

On this website, we reinforce the actions we are taking in view of this fact and the commitments made to society and to our body of more than 100,000 employees throughout Brazil. With the objective of continuing to evolve as a company and contributing to the fight against structural racism in Brazil.

Grupo Carrefour Brasil completes all agreements with João Alberto Freitas' family members and advances in internal commitments and with society.
